Award Winning G-LEC LightFrame Goes Austropop

With a total of 40 acts appearing on the same stage, an extremely versatile set was required, leading set designer Florian Wieder to use G-LEC ClassicFrame and LightFrame large scale LED graphics display systems with video capabilities. Florian chose the EDDY Award winning LightFrame to create innovative ‘multimedia chandeliers’ - cubes of LightFrames that were dotted around the set for the gala styled finale. He also used ClassicFrames around the edge of the set for the duration of the show, explaining: “we had many artists, each with different styles, and with the G-LEC ClassicFrame and LightFrame I was able to give each of them their own distinctive look.”
Having the same unsurpassed transparency and lightweight qualities of the original ClassicFrame, the LightFrame is ideal for stage performances and was praised by EDDY award judges for its light weight and easy assembly. “The new LightFrames are beautiful, clean (they do away with large mullions and conspicuous cable loops), they are much more affordable, and they are capable of being used with nothing more than . . . DMX,” said one judge. “They can be configured in a variety of shapes and arrays.”
The LightFrame’s ultra-bright RGB pixels sit in clear tubes, effectively providing a unique 3D display environment. Controllable by any DMX512 source, the LightFrame can be seamlessly integrated into any lighting design and can also display DMX capable graphics. Each frame can be set to display 16, 4 or one separately controlled square, each requiring four DMX512 channels - RGB and intensity. The LightFrame is also RDM 1.2 ready – which makes patching of large and very large systems all the more manageable.
The lightweight square frames, each measuring 0.96m x 0.96m, can be easily assembled and reassembled in any format, providing long term flexibility for any number and type of performances, while its sturdy aluminium frame allows for the rigours of touring. It can be mounted or hung from practically any surface, indoors or out. The LightFrame is so lightweight and so easily manoeuvrable that it can quickly be assembled and taken down by one technician and one or two helpers – with no need for a lift or crane.
G-LEC has also incorporated a removable electronics box, which, like the tubes, can be removed from the frame, allowing them to be fixed in any way that suits the performance – for example, daisy chained around a particular feature to give it increased prominence. This way, inventive set designers, as well as lighting designers, benefit.
Unlike the G-LEC ClassicFrame, which is available on a hire basis only, the LightFrame is available to buy right now and as one EDDY award judge predicted, aside from appearing on studio based shows such as Austropop: “We bet you’ll see a whole bunch of them popping up in concert touring applications everywhere.”
