Canegreen Commercial with Fashion at the Savoy
The Spinal Research Top to Tail Dinner took guests into the glamorous world of James Bond and attracted the support of leading celebrities in raising £80,000 at the Savoy this April.
Lorraine Kelly and Jim Rosenthal hosted 300 guests through a light hearted evening with a serious fund-raising purpose. A fast moving fashion show entertained guests with models including ex bond girls Maryam D’Abo and Caroline Bliss, joined by D’Arcy Bussel, Jilly Johnson and sporting icons David James, Richard Dunwoody, David Ginola and (hotly tipped as the next James Bond) actor Colin Salmon.
The fashion show was presented by Jim Scott, backed by a fast moving mix of Bond soundtracks, underpinned by the classic 007 tune. Sound engineer Richard Ryan skilfully mixed the tracks to create a dynamic feature of the evening, with Scott introducing the models and their outfits to a delighted audience.
Richard established himself managing the sound at high profile theatre shows across Europe and has worked with Canegreen Commercial for a number of years. He commented: “The fashion show was quite complicated due to the number of different tracks behind the catwalk parade. I introduced the stings behind each of the couples whilst keeping the background tune going and making sure Jim (Scott) could be heard clearly. The great thing working with Canegreen Commercial is that they have the experience and equipment to make sure the systems they provide are perfectly suited to each specific event.”
Canegreen Commercial director Andrew Frengley designed the sound system that utilised 16 Meyer UPM1 speakers flown unobtrusively in the truss above the audience, with three Meyer UPA1-P speakers and three Meyer USW 1-P speakers integrated into the set.
The other key parts to the evening were two auctions. The first was a silent auction utilising Blackberry handsets provided to each of the tables by event sponsors O2. The second was definitely not silent as Lord Dalmeny took to the stage and encouraged guests to dig deep and contribute to the evening’s fundraising efforts.
The shows organisers EON Productions brought in the production management team of Mark Ward and Kahren Williams, back together running a show for the first time since Mark’s return from six months working in Somalia with Medicines Sans Frontiere. Mark oversaw the transformation of the Savoy’s Lancaster Room with an impressive stage-set and the technical production elements of sound, lighting and video.
Regarding the sound he commented: “Canegreen Commercial has been thoroughly professional throughout the event. They’ve predicted any potential problems we could have had and given us great sound with minimal fuss.”
