Ministry Of Sound Selects Allen & Heath for Audio Upgrade
Global club conglomerate, Ministry of Sound, has just completed an overhaul of the audio systems in its flagship London venue with theintroduction of Allen & Heath mixers across the board.
MoS, which has been using a Xone:464 for several years as the broadcast mixer for its radio station, selected the audiophile rotary Xone:V6 andMIDI-enabled Xone:92 to give DJ's a choice in the DJ booth, with an ML3000 VCA console to provide sound reinforcement for live acts.
Opened in 1991, The Ministry of Sound has become one of the world's most famous night clubs, playing music from Dance, Trance, House, Garage, Drum & Bass, Hip-Hop, Rap, Progressive, and Hard House.
Head of production, David Bradshaw, commented: "The Xone:V6 was selected to replace our ageing Urei-1620, which was becoming unreliable in use, and a Rane MP-2016. The V6 is easily the best sounding of these three mixers, especially with all 6 channelsfitted with valves. The sound is rounded and warm, never sharp and withplenty of headroom. We have had DJ's change mixer mid-set to the V6 purely because the sound is so much better than other mixers.
"The best feature on the V6 must be the high-pass filter on each channel. It takes a little while for DJ's to understand what this does but once they do everyone agrees that this is far better than a simple 'bass' control, and much smoother.
The Xone:92 was fitted to replace a Rane MP-44 and another is fitted in the Baby Box room at the club.
"The 92 has more on board features requested increasingly by the DJ's who play here. It features more often on riders than most other mixers and it satisfies a demand for a high quality linear mixer at MoS. The 92's most used feature is certainly the filters, though I suspect the most useful feature in time will be the MIDI capability," Bradshaw concludes.
The system is set up so that all the sources are available on either mixer, on any channel.
