New from Turbosound at Frankfurt

Turbosound launched a new product in its QLight series of loudspeakers, the TQ-315DP, at the recent Frankfurt Prolight+Sound 2005. Making its world debut at the show, the 2-way, full-range TQ-315DP is a digitally-powered model that incorporates a 2 x 800 watts Class D power amplifier module.

The QLight TQ-315DP is a trapezoidal design, for easy deployment in front of house or floor monitor applications. The loudspeaker utilises a 15” LF driver, with a 1.4” HF driver on a rotatable Converging Elliptical Waveguide, which provides an 80º x 50º coverage pattern.

The loudspeaker's integral Class D power amplifier module provides 2 x 800 watts r.m.s. into 8 ohms, and its sophisticated 96kHz DSP technology combines EQ, active crossovers and output limiters. The on-board DSP ensures the system is perfectly optimised and completely self-contained, needing only a signal feed from a console with no additional outboard processing. The TQ-315DP also incorporates an ultra-fast switch-mode power supply, with auto-sensing from 100V to 240V, enabling easy operation anywhere in the world.

With a rugged cabinet constructed from 15mm (5/8") birch plywood, the TQ-315DP incorporates a pole-mount socket, and includes provision for flying points on the top, bottom and rear of the cabinet. It also offers M10 rigging points for M10 eyebolts, as well as M6 rigging points to suit Omnidrive and Turbosound wall and ceiling brackets. The loudspeaker's rear panel includes Neutrik Powercon connectors, plus limit-Hi and limit-Lo LEDs, and an EQ contour selector for room optimisation and for use with QLight DP subwoofers.

   The TQ-315DP joins the rest of Turbosound's self-powered QLight series, which includes the TQ-308DP 2-way, the TQ-310DP 2-way and the full-range 3-way TQ-445DP, together with the TQ-115DP 1 x 15 sub-bass and the TQ-425DP 2 x 15 sub-bass.

Turbosound's new-generation lightweight Class-D power amplifier, which incorporates DSP technology using a class-leading 96kHz sample rate, boasts a dynamic range of 110dB. The design enables Turbosound to offer loudspeakers that are among the most powerful self-powered units in their class, with the QLight™ DP models capable of operating at more than 90% overall efficiency. In addition to the dramatic increase in efficiency, which is maintained even at relatively low power levels, Class-D operation also brings advantages in terms of heat dissipation. The design's use of pulse-width modulation techniques removes the need for a heat sink and results in significant weight savings, since unlike Class AB designs, only 10 per cent of energy is lost as heat.
