Nexo and Tarsin Put Style In The City

The company is currently in the midst of a wave of acquisitions and refurbishments, following their partnership with property developer Giles Baker and with the regeneration of London’s inner city, they have turned their attention towards the square mile.

Having developed Nylon in Little Britain, Style In The City have again tasked their preferred audio supplier, Tarsin Ltd, with providing a Nexo-based system for the former Fuego tapas restaurant in Basinghall Street, which has now been converted to a Bed operation.

A basement venue with a 3am license, Bed follows a Moroccan theme, with its rich colours, highly detailed Moroccan lanterns and heavily-draped Bedouin-style fabric. A mirrorball ‘chandelier’ cluster, supplied by Tarsin, introduces the right degree of retro.

“These are very hands-on operators and Bed is essentially a music venue,” says Tarsin MD’s Peter Dyer. “Therefore it called for a high-power, evenly-distributed system.”

Depending on venue size, Dyer runs a combination of Nexo PS8 or PS15 speakers and Camco Tecton amplifiers — supplied by distributors Fuzion plc. “Whenever a DJ is present we add subs — and here we have three ground-stacked Nexo LS500’s,” he says.

Tarsin have divided the 250-capacity venue into three zones, served by a total of 12 carefully-directed PS8’s, optimised by three dedicated PS8TD system controllers (one for each zone). Five Camco Tecton 24.4’s provide more than sufficient amplifier power for the DJ, who is equipped with industry-reference playback and audio mixing equipment.

Style In The City is run by brothers, Gary and Tony Hibberd and John O’Donnell. “Since we first put a Nexo system in five years ago, they have never considered using anything else,” confirms Peter Dyer. “The system controllers ensure a low failure rate, yet at the same time DJ’s don’t complain about compression or limiting of the signal.”

Tarsin have also recently completed Nexo installations at Babushka venues in Threadneedle Street and Farringdon Road — also in the City — and now move onto a new waterfront site on the Albert Embankment.
