P&O Takes Possession of Arcadia
On March 25th, 2005, British cruise operator P&O took possession of their first new vessel since the Aurora entered service in 2000. The 83,000 ton, 936 ft long Arcadia - delivered by Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard near Venice, Italy - represents the largest and most advanced cruise ship ever built for the British market.
Nautilus Entertainment Design Inc. (NED) provided design, project management and system commissioning management services for the 23 entertainment systems on board. Bringing their extensive expertise to the project, NED designed venues including the scenic Crow’s Nest observation lounge, elegant Globe Theatre and the 1000-seat Palladium Theatre.
NED’s project management team was led by Bill Havens of the NED New York office and Denis McCubbin, based in the NED La Jolla office. The onsite NED project team was headed by Matt Howes and included rigging inspector Bob Murphy, lighting inspector Don Hill and audio/video inspectors Matt Hodkinson and Graham Hall.
The Fincantieri shipyard engaged HMS Italia to install a turn-key system for the Arcadia, including onsite cabling, equipment supply, rack construction and system installation. HMS subcontracted ACR for the theatrical rigging mechanics and Mechatronics for the rigging control system.
