SSE Prepares Fully Networked System for Festival Season

SSE has also taken delivery of NX242 TDcontrollers from Nexo, proprietary digital processors equipped with the new NXtension cards which will allow full EtherSound networking across SSE's whole Nexo GEO T speaker system, and Camco power amplifiers.
The AuviTran's AVY-ES cards provide two EtherSound connectors and an RS232 port for both very-low latency audio and data transmission, up to 64 audio input and 64 audio output channels can be transmitted to or sent from a Yamaha mixer or any other professional audio product featuring the "mini-YGDAI" interface, over regular CAT5 cables. They offer full network and/or local control of all channel assignments as well as constant network status monitoring, making them ideal for distribution, routing and control of audio in live performance environments.
SSE's Chris Beale has, for many years, conducted a personal crusade on behalf of the universal network. He believes that he has found the answer in EtherSound. “It's easy to use, low cost, and endlessly flexible, and because it has low latency and an open source philosophy, it is a viable connectivity solution for live audio. I believe that EtherSound or a derivative will eventually become as widely accepted as MIDI is today, and, in my opinion, any manufacturer that doesn't offer EtherSound options will be at a real disadvantage.”
Starting with Homelands in May, SSE intends to deploy a fully-networked festival system. “We'll be staying in the digital domain throughout,” explains Beale, “all of the output will be distributed via CAT5 to the amp racks and distribution systems using the EtherSound protocol. Our trials so far have shown a really noticeable improvement in sound quality, not to mention the advances in system control.”
Developed by Digigram, EtherSound is a CAT5-based communications technology which is ideally suited for use in the live sound environment. Marquee Audio is the UK distributor for AuviTran and its EtherSound-based products.
