Verona Goes To Vienna as Midas Triumphs In Austrian Shootout
Midas, Austrian distributor Audiosales has sold a 40-channel Verona console to VTR (Veranstaltungstechnik Rieder), a Viennese multimedia rental company offering high level video solutions to high calibre clients from across the country. VTR has invested heavily in video equipment over the past years, and the time had come to bring the quality of audio up to the same high level, which included replacing the main audio mixing desk which had been in residence for some time. Criteria included much-improved sonic performance, better signal to noise ratio - especially when placed near dimmer or amp racks - a small frame size and a reasonable price point.
After a shootout between four British-manufactured consoles, VTR had no hesitation in choosing the Midas Verona.
"Although VCAs are a nice feature to have, we don’t need them very so much, so we focused more on the audio quality," says Mischa Volavsek, technical director of VTR. "When it came to mic pre quality and EQ sound, Verona was the clear winner.
"The Midas EQ doesn’t just process the required frequency, it also makes the signal stand out in the mix. We felt that the other desks altered some other frequencies which weren't meant to be changed, and the EQ’d signal wasn't much clearer afterwards. When it came to bass frequencies in particular, Verona achieved a clarity we couldn't get from the other desks, which sounded mushy by comparison and blurred the whole image. With Verona everything was clear and well within the control of our fingertips.
"The most astonishing thing happened when we used Verona on a site where we always had noise and hum problems in the past - we couldn't believe how silent Verona was. We didn’t change anything compared to the previous years, but there was no hum and noise! I think this noise cancelling buss technology Midas speaks of is the most impressive ‘hidden’ feature for rental companies like us with a lot of video and lightning equipment."
The purchase of the Midas Verona is the latest phase of a long-established business relationship between VTR and Audiosales Vertriebs GmbH.
