L.E.D. Pass the Ultimate Test in Cork

Lighting Effects Distribution have provided Ultimate Leisure plc with a range of dynamic effects from their product catalogue, to bring their new Blu Bambu venue to life in Cork.

The contract for the sound, lighting and audio visual was awarded to Beta Systems of Mallow — based on their design scheme and the fact that they are based just 45 minutes from the club, in the event of breakdown.

Ultimate Leisure’s Carl Hornsby had introduced Beta Systems to Lighting Effects Distribution MD, Ian Kirby, who provided the lighting specification.

Said Beta Systems’ Kieran Hynes: “A one-stop supply certainly makes it easier when ordering equipment as long as the prices are competitive. We will be doing business with Ian again and in fact have just ordered some LED fittings for another project we are working on.”

However, in Cork their main focus was on the Geni scanner effects, which L.E.D. distribute exclusively in the UK — specifically the popular Shiva 200R, Burst 2X, MOS 300 hybrids and Mojo Colour 150 effects.

“Although we have very little experience with the Geni equipment, I was impressed with their build quality, the light output, the pan and tilt of the Shiva — which covers a very large area — and the fact that both the Shiva and the Burst will work well in low ceiling areas,” Kieran remarked.

The main floor features an elliptical lighting bar, holding eight Geni 150W Mojo colour changers to illuminate the top and sides of a mirrorball, as well as six Coemar iSpot 150’s, supplied by Lighting Effects Distribution — the exclusive Coemar distributor for the UK. In the VIP Bar are four further Coemar iSpots run off a Geni Brain controller.

The first floor lighting is designed into five separate sections, and based around the above Geni effects and the extremely powerful Hungaroflash strobes, which are also distributed by L.E.D. Coemar ProSpot 250 Evo effects, supplied by LED, have been added to each rig.

Particularly impressive is the MOS 300 moving head/scanner hybrid, the advantage over conventional moving heads being its speed and the ability to rotate through 360°. The Burst 2X is used on all sides of the dancefloor to create a stunning floor effect with scattered, multi-coloured beams while the Shiva 200R provides the light movement over the dancefloor. All the lighting is controlled from a Martin Light Jockey.

“Lighting Effects Distribution provided design support throughout,” declares Kieran, “and I must say the lighting overall is proving extremely effective.”
