New Style Trunks for Moving Heads
Wisbeach-based 5 Star Cases Limited recently supplied a large number of new style cases for moving head lights. The new trunk is an adaptation from an existing design and this particular unit was to house the Robe 1200AT. The design department at 5 Star set about re-designing the trunk using their recently installed 3D modelling software which enables designers to produce a 'virtual case' to the exact dimensions, including all appropriate case fittings, etc.
Once the design had been verified, various renderings of the trunk were e-mailed to Blackburn based HSL who were the first to benefit from this updated designed trunk and they placed an order for 167 units. Minor modifications were then carried out to the 'model' to cater for HSL's specific requirements. The trunks house twin moving light units, however a unique feature is the option to add a separate door to convert the trunk into a single unit. Another key feature of the updated design is that the lift height to remove the light is only around 20mm. Once this 20mm is cleared, the light is then simply withdrawn horizontally to aid handling. Transportation on the Robe 1200AT trunk also benefits from the 'quarter pack' design.
Other features include storage boxes within the trunk for the different lens options as well as hook clamps and safety wires. This design is now being adapted for most other moving head luminaires.
The first batch of 15 trunks went immediatley to the Indian Film Awards at Xcel in London's Docklands. All units were subsequently delivered to Robe Show Lighting in the Czech Republic and from there, on to the Ukraine for the 2005 Eurovision Song Contestwhich is being staged in Kiev later this month. HSL will be collaborating with Spectra Plus by providing over 200 fixtures for the event.
