Pioneer Device Transforms 50-inch Plasma into Highly Interactive Display
Pioneer has announced the introduction of its new touch-screen device, PDK-50HW3, for its 50-inch professional display. A bezel employing infrared technology, rather than a screen overlay, the device does not impair the high-performance, crystal clear imagery of the display and enables users to exert a high degree of control over third party software by touching the screen with a finger or the supplied pen. Images and text can be drawn on the screen, data highlighted, deleted, amended, printed and saved. Such features improve both the versatility and interactivity of presentations and enhance a range of point of sale and information applications.
“In keeping with our record for innovation, we’ve created a simple to use touch-screen device that transforms our 50-inch professional plasma into a touch panel. It complements the renowned performance and aesthetic value of Pioneer displays with a tool that corporate customers can use to enhance presentations. Also, installers can apply the product in retail, education, military, point of sale and a wide range of promotional environments to further capture and hold people's attention as they view content displayed on-screen,” observes Darren Gaffey, European product manager, Pioneer industrial plasma display business Europe.
The device is used in conjunction with readily available PDP-50MXE1 Plasma display. Its supplied pen acts as a three-button mouse providing the standard PC control functions that users will be familiar with and can be used to interact, draw and make notes on the screen to emphasise important points. In addition, the device allows a plasma display to be utilised as an interactive information board providing users with a wealth of information at their fingertips.
A key innovation offered by the newly-designed PDK-50HW3 is USB connectivity that provides an easy to install, one-wire solution for data and power. Performance is enhanced over similar systems through Pioneer’s exclusive high-speed infrared scanning system. This is embedded along the inside border of the sleek, lightweight unit and delivers highly accurate calibration between the software and user instructions demands – even if the display is moved. Unlike other systems, the device is not an overlay on the plasma display (such systems can degrade images), instead, Pioneer's device only covers the bezel, leaving users with a bright, clear on-screen image. It only slightly increases a display’s dimensions making it ideal for permanent installations.
