Avolites in Control at Coldplay

The tour promises to be one of the most visually exciting and technically innovative of the year.

Leitch and Whitehouse have always been great Avolites advocates. Avo’s largest and most powerful console – the Diamond 4 Vision – was an obvious choice of user interface for the show. “Apart from the fact it’s one of the few consoles with the ability to run this many DMX universes,” says Whitehouse. “It’s also great for hands on work, and being able to grab the elements you want and improvise immediately if you wish. The D4 is definitely my desk of choice.”

The D4 is fully loaded with eight universes of DMX, including large quantities of moving and generic lights plus assorted video sources, run through the desk triggering the new Radical Lighting NG1 high definition digital media server.

Avolites made some specific software customisations for the console as the request of Whitehouse and Leitch, and Whitehouse also has a Diamond 4 Tablet PC on tour. This gives him highly portable wireless remote control of the entire lighting rig – via the graphical interface on screen - from anywhere in the room, and is an invaluable tool for focussing and tweaking.
