Blackout and The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy Exhibition

Drapes and rigging specialist Blackout supplied three bespoke fibre-optic starcloths to exhibition expert Silver Knight Events, which are currently being deployed in London’s Science Museum for its new pan-galactic interactive visitor experience - the Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy Exhibition.

The exhibition takes visitors on a journey from Arthur Dent’s kitchen to the far reaches of outer space. It brings to life the witty and satirical narrative of Douglas Adams’ iconic story.

Blackout’s hire and sales co-ordinator Nico Beukes collaborated with Silver Knight’s project manager John Nearn to ensure that the three bespoke drapes met his exacting specifications. Designed in a range of sizes, the fibre-optic starcloths, measured 12.2 metres x 12.2 metres, 4 metres x 1 metre and 3 metres x 4 metres. They played an integral role in the rich set design, which combined over 200 original props, creatures and costumes that featured in the recently launched blockbuster movie.

The glinting, magical galaxy-like effect of the starcloth added the finishing touch to simulate the experience of travelling through outer space.

Silver Knight’s John Nearn commented: “Blackout’s team were fantastic. They met our tight deadlines to fabricate the starcloth to our exacting specifications. It added to the magical inter-galactic experience and the overall success of the exhibition.”
