Roland Hemming Goes Independent
Roland Hemming has announced his departure from system integrators Live Business International to become an independent project manager and consultant for the entertainment technology industry.
With a vast range of experience in audio, video and lighting technologies in both live and installation applications, he has already had approaches from several leading names in the business to work on a variety of projects.
“In four successful years since setting up Live Business International,” he says, “we built a very strong team and an excellent client list. Having founded the business and established the team, it was time for me to move on to meet new challenges. The industry continues to evolve and embrace new technologies and I’m excited to be out there at the sharp end of it.”
Roland’s 18-year career in the industry has taken him from sound engineer and designer at Theatre Projects where he worked on West End and touring theatre, conferences and special events including royal weddings, and set up the UK’s first ever show control division renting out computer control of sound and lighting in the technology’s infancy.
That was followed by four years as a production manager for a variety of live events and conferences in the UK and Europe, and project manager and consultant for numerous technical installations on land and at sea. In 1998 he was appointed head of sound for the world’s largest sound system installation project, the Millennium Dome in London.
After overseeing the dismantling of the latter system in 2001, Roland was appointed as technical director to set up and run a new sound, lighting and audio-visual installation company, Live Business International. The company’s growing team gained clients ranging from cruise ships, theatre, educational establishments, voice alarm systems and corporate AV installations, and a reputation for the highest technical and project management standards.
His other activities include presenting papers to the Audio Engineering Society, advisor to ICIA, a regular speaker at industry conferences, a judge for the PLASA Innovation Awards since 2002, author of articles for industry magazines and a media consultant.
He is also a consultant to several manufacturers on the development of forthcoming audio products and, as a digital audio networking expert, is helping to develop and introduce the next generation of audio networking systems.
