Summit Steel at ABTT Show for First Time

Summit Steel will exhibit at the forthcoming ABTT Theatre Show for the first time, aiming to raise its profile within the theatre industry.

Summit has regularly provided rigging expertise and equipment to theatres, companies and arts projects including Cirque du Soleil, the ENO, the RSC, The Albery, Royal Court and Almeida theatres, the London Palladium, the Theatre Royal Haymarket, the Finnish National Opera and for Thelma Holt at the Lyric.

The company’s ongoing expansion plans include developing more relationships with theatre and performance orientated projects, and ABTT is an ideal opportunity for meeting potential clientele, illustrating its services and raise it’s profile in the world of theatre.

In addition to a vast stock of truss, hoists, ground supports, including their renowned SmarTmasts and rigging hardware, Summit is specifically highlighting its Kinesys Elevation movement system at the show.

Kinesy is a dynamic, fully programmable vari-speed hoist and winch control system, complemented with 32 double brake CM Lodestar hoists capable of running at speeds of up to 21m/min.

The system provides highly accurate, ultra controllable movement combined with high capacity lifting, and was recently in use with the ENO at the Coliseum, suspending cantilevered P.A. frames for their production of ‘On the Town’.

Further features include Kinesys’ Vector control software for the creation and editing of multiple cues, group and single running facilities, a manual mode and programmable ramping for starts and stops.

Complementing the system, Summit offers two sets of hoists – 1 tonne SWL double braked model LL CM Lodestar hoists with a vari-speed of up to 10.5m/min and half tonne SWL double braked model JJ Lodestars, with a Vari-speed of up to 21m/min.

Kinesys’ Elevation 1+ controller allows variable speed running and full positional control of one elevation per hoist or winch The controller is housed in a hard wearing aluminium case with multiple fixing points and rugged industry-standard connections throughout. Mounted close to the motor, it offers variable speed manual control of each Elevation 1+, a clear read-out of the unit address and positions on each Elevation 1+, plus programmable ramped start and stop.

The proprietary Vector Control software has been specially developed for the Kinesys system for millimetre accurate and highly flexible control of variable and fixed speed devices. It runs on Microsoft Windows 2000 or XP Professional. Offering group and single running facilities, Vector incorporates full cue editing and playback facilities. Cue functions include staggered starts, time priority running, time delays, linking and looping. There’s an integrated alarm monitoring system and a ‘Group Halt’ facility in case of a failure in any element of a group.

The Kinesys PD-ES Distro provides power and data distribution via four 32A 3 phase sockets and RS485 protocol. Data transfer to and from the Vector control software is via Ethernet. 16A single phase power supply is provided for PC/laptop and the unit has a fully incorporated Cat.3 E-stop.
