Audio-Technica for Bradford Mela Festival

West Yorkshire based sound and AV event specialists, Pro Audio Systems Ltd., kitted out the recent Bradford Mela festival with a full complement of Audio-Technica microphones and wireless systems, to cover all on-stage eventualities in Europe’s largest Asian festival.

Held over the weekend of 18th – 19th June, in the city’s Peel Park, Mela featured a large main stage, showcasing a culturally and internationally diverse programme of musical performances. Pro Audio Systems rigged the stage with a 32 piece Meyer Sound Milo line array, and an A-T microphone inventory to cater for everything from large scale Indian percussion ensembles to solo rap artists.

Andrew Brookes, hire manager Pro Audio Systems, explains: ”The PRO35 clip-on mics were especially popular and sounded great on a wide range of ethnic percussion instruments, such as tablas. AT4033 cardioid condensers were very versatile and used both as overheads and very successfully on guitar amplification. AT4041 condensers were a general purpose favourite. And AE5400 and AE3300 handhelds performed admirably on vocals.

“The handheld wireless systems performed very well and the sound team appreciated the fact that they used the same capsule as the wired handhelds which provided signal continuity.”

Performers over the Saturday and Sunday included both traditional and contemporary Asian artists, including rising Bangra star Dalvinder Singh, internationally famous composer and tabla player Talvin Singh, Pakistan’s ‘pop sensation’ Faakhir, and ghazals / jazz fusion singer Najma Akhtar.
