Audio-Technica Appointed as IBC Supporter

Following the company’s support for major international broadcast events, such as the Athens, Sydney and Atlanta Olympic Games, the Manchester Commonwealth Games, the Annual GRAMMY Awards, and Live8, support of the IBC furthers Audio-Technica’s commitment to the international broadcasting community.
“Audio-Technica is very pleased to support the IBC. With the company’s involvement in so many international broadcast events, we recognize the importance of the work of the IBC in helping to develop standards and encouraging best practice, in a fast changing environment,” stated Richard Garrido, European distribution and marketing director.
Two eight-channel, 5000 Series, UHF wireless systems are provided for the main conference room and a seminar room, with a further six-channel system provided for a smaller seminar room. These systems comprise Audio-Technica’s AEW-R5200 networkable receiver system, AEW-T1000 UniPak miniature beltpack transmitter, AEW-T5400 handheld transmitter, AT899 sub-miniature lavalier mics and AT892, the world’s smallest head worn mic.
An IBC convention is not the most ‘friendly’ RF environment, with the convention hosting its own TV channel, and the exhibition featuring a wealth of digital products and technologies. To ensure signal integrity, a distribution system with dual antennae is being used with each system. Furthermore, the 5000 Series features A-T’s proprietary IntelliScan automatic frequency scanning and Ethernet system control. This enables the connect ion of multiple receiver units via Ethernet ports, to provide the unified control and monitoring, via Mac or PC, of a complete system, within which the IntelliScan function can automatically determine and set the best available frequencies for all channels, minimizing interference and intermodulation.
On-site operation and support at the convention is being provided by Audio-Technica’s Dutch distributor, Audio-pro. Commenting on the wireless provision, Alexander Lepges, technical support manager, Audio-Technica Europe, states: “The IBC presents a unique set of challenges as an RF site. There are simply so many people operating potentially disruptive kit, that without the Intelliscan function, it would not be such a straight forward operation to provide so many secure wireless channels.”
