PV Audio Video Prefer Geni for Brannigan’s Refurbs

Part of the Leisure Parcs group, Herald Inns & Bars contracted PV Audio Video, who faced with spending the AV budget as wisely as possible, turned to the catalogue of Ian Kirby’s Lighting Effects Distribution for their moving dancefloor effects.
‘PV’ are the initials of Peter Varey, who like Kirby is a long-time industry professional; he was not only impressed by the value for money offered by the Geni effects (which L.E.D. exclusively represent in the UK), but the overall strength of the product catalogue and the fact that he knew he could rely on a high level of support.
Peter said he was aided by being able to conduct an A/B comparison of the effects. “I was fortunate that two competing brands existed on one site; fixture-for-fixture the FX in the Genis were more favourable and they offered a better colour palette.”
Although Brannigans is a late-license, live, party venue, he says, it had previously been devoid of lighting. “We needed to get as much movement and high-registration colour as possible over the dancefloor for the least outlay.”
Providing the solution were eight Geni Shiva 200 scanners, suspended from the ceiling, interlaced with four of the Geni Burst barrel effects and two Coemar ProWash 250’s.
Because of the low ceiling height — under 3m — these provided a perfect solution. “I was particularly impressed with the Bursts, which produce an amazing effect,” says Peter. “Programmed by Maria Jenkins of Light Tricks, everything is and run off a Light Processor Qcommander.
When Herald Inns & Bars began their resuscitation programme, their Blackpool flagship was earmarked as the first. Peter Varey took over the service contract before being invited to tender for the full fit-out in Chester. “They simply told me to bring the place into the 21st century,” he said.
And now, with the aid of interior designers Richard Chadwick Associates, the one-time First Leisure American-themed venues are achieving just that.
