Concert Sound and XTA get into the Groove at Lovebox
Lovebox started in 2002 so that dance duo Groove Armada could host its own parties. This has grown into a series of hugely successful events that reached its climax this year at the end of July in the East End of London in Hackney’s Victoria Park. Sound rental company Concert Sound provided systems to audio provider South West Audio for the event that relied heavily on their stock of XTA Electronics’ processors.
The event’s unique status amongst dance music aficionados is due in no small part to the fact that not only do Groove Armada headline at the festival, but they hand pick the line-up to reflect what has happened over the past year in the dance and electronic music scene: this year they were supported by Mylo and Plantlife amongst others.
Concert Sound’s multi-tasking Dave Ryan performed a number of roles including system tech for the main arena, system tech and engineer for his own area – the main dance room - and crew chief for the entire site. He explains the XTA contingent: “We had a total of four XTA GQ600s performing graphics duties, one in my room and three on the main stage.
“There were four dance rooms across the site, three with an XTA SiDD and one which had a C2 compressor. The new DP428 was running monitors in my room where I also had DP226s and a SiDD inserted across a JBL Vertec system of four main boxes and four subs per side.”
The DP428 offers 4x8 matrix capability, 48 dB crossover slopes, and a host of EQ solutions for addressing virtually any audio problem. There are four inputs, each offering gain control, a 28-band graphic EQ, eight filters, and a delay. But Ryan found the DP428 ideal for the job quite simply because of it four in, eight out configuration.
“This is a great event,” he concludes. “We had been wanting to use the DP428 for ages and this was the perfect opportunity. And it performed flawlessly!”
