DiGiCo Consoles give Auditive Flawless Perfomance at Gold Globes Gala
The Gold Globes Gala is one of Portugal’s most important televised awards shows. It is produced and broadcast by SIC, a privately owned Portuguese channel, and honours stars from the diverse worlds of music, sport, theatre and cinema.
This year’s ceremony was held in the Coliseu dos Recreios in Lisbon and Portuguese rental company Auditiv was responsible for the entire sound system for the event and they made good use of their DiGiCo digital mixing consoles to ensure perfect reproduction both for the audience at the event itself and for the broadcast mix. “Auditiv has a great deal of experience in the Portuguese events industry,” explains Nuno de Sousa, Audium’s marketing manager. “This is due to a combination of the extensive knowledge of engineering brothers Miguel Escada and Joćo Escada, as well as the superior quality of equipment we supply for these types of productions, that isn’t matched by anyone else in the Portuguese market.
“The system for this event had to be very sophisticated, not only to underline the technical capabilities of Auditiv, but also our commitment to providing the most innovative and up to date solutions.”
The sound system comprised a JBL Vertec rig with 12 arrays of VT 4888 and Crown amplification including the new Itech 6000. Auditiv supplied DiGiCo consoles at both front of house and monitor positions: a D1 Live at front of house and a D5 Live at monitors. “We chose this particular set up because the monitor position, by its very nature, requires a greater number of available channels, so it is logical to have the D5 there,” says Miguel Escada.
Miguel Escada, system technician and sound engineer for the show, adds: “The DiGiCo consoles are very simple and intuitive to use and include absolutely everything that is necessary to do the job.” This was born out by the fact that all the signal processing requirements for the system were met by either the D1 or the D5 with not a single rack with any type of processing on site. Escada explains: “I can control everything without having to get up out of my seat: from microphone gain to effects; signal flow and routings; right through to the control of the PA and its processing. The only thing they can’t do is make the coffee!”
Escada was completely satisfied with the result and, above everything, the contribution of his “babies” the DiGiCo D1 Live and D5 Live, that have, he says, features and performance capabilities that fulfil his every requirement with ease.
