Princess Selandia Looks Into the Futurelight

Moored at the Town Quay, the floating leisure complex — a former Scandinavia train ferry — has been converted by a group of local entrepreneurs led by well-known nightclub operator, Rick Lucas.
The sound and lighting contract were awarded to Liverpool-based Lightworks Technical Services, run by Martin Harrison and Robert Barlow, who have used 30 of the Scans in the 2000-capacity, 100-metre-long discotheque; these form the main automated effects in a design which leans heavily towards neon.
LTS have been involved in a number of Lucas’s ventures over the past seven or eight years and during that time have constantly returned to Futurelight. “I just really like the products,” says Martin. “And I am particularly impressed with the power we can get from the 575’s.”
Supplied by DiFuzion, Futurelight’s sole UK distributor, the 575 Pro scan can be operated via DMX control or in stand-alone mode (via a built-in microphone and 48 preprogrammed scenes). This fully-featured fixture includes eight brilliant, dichroic colours plus white, switchable colour change and varispeed rainbow-effect, with static and interchangeable gobo wheels.
Suspended from a Trilite rig at the Princess Selandia, the 575 Pro Scans operate under ShowCAD control.
The nightclub floor is one of four decks that make up this floating leisure palace and party venue.
Originally launched in 1950, the converted promenade deck boasts restaurants serving Italian, French, Indian, Mexican and Chinese food cuisine and there is also an ice cream parlour, piano bar and cocktail bar.
There is a separate 100-seater a la carte silver service restaurant and private function room, and the ship is also licensed to hold wedding ceremonies.
The Princess Selandia will also be able to cater for special events in its function rooms and stage conferences, while the top deck contains a large screen TV and the rear sun deck, a barbecue.
