Soundtracs Console is the Alpha Choice

Greek television station Alpha TV has recently taken delivery of a Soundtracs DS-00 console with two EX-00 eight-fader expansion units.

The Athens-based station has just opened new broadcast facilities with the highest possible specification and the fully-expanded capability of the DS-00 was the natural choice as it comes with 64 channels of full processing, 40 busses and can mix in surround formats up to 7.1. And as it can take a total of four expansion units, should they need to, Alpha can expand up to 49 channels.

The console was chosen by Alpha TV’s technical director, Constantinos Colombus, who says: “We were searching for a digital mixer to replace our old analogue system. Our new facility is all digital, and so it was essential that we had the best digital console to complement the rest of the equipment.

“From the technical point of view it is a state of the art product, which is suitable for both production and on-air use. And from the user point of view it is, in my opinion, far better than any other digital console currently available.”

Reinforcing the latter point, Constantinos reveals that it took just four hours of training for Alpha’s sound engineers to become fully familiar with the console. Installed in the station’s news control room, the DS-00 is used primarily for the broadcast of live news, where there can be absolutely no margin for error. Soon after installation, it was being tested by more than six hours of constant live broadcasting with Alpha TV’s coverage of the tragic Cypriot airliner crash. “The DS-00 performed flawlessly,” concludes Constantinos. “It’s very important that we have total reliability when we’re covering events like this and we have complete confidence in this console.”
