White Light Congratulates Olivier Award Nominees
The nominees for this year’s Laurence Olivier Awards, presented by the Society of London Theatres, were announced yesterday. White Light would like to congratulate lighting designers Paule Constable, Rick Fisher, Howard Harrison and Hugh Vanstone, along with the nominees in all of the other categories.
The lighting designers were nominated for Don Carlos at the Gielgud, lit by last year’s winner, Paule Constable; Billy Elliot at the Victoria Palace, lit by Rick Fisher, Guys and Dolls at the Piccadilly, lit by Howard Harrison, and Mary Stuart at the Donmar Warehouse and then the Apollo, lit by Hugh Vanstone. Guys and Dolls and Billy Elliot were also nominated in many other categories, receiving a total of eight and nine nominations respectively.
Of the lighting nominees, two shows, Billy Elliot and Mary Stuart used lighting rigs supplied by White Light, with Billy Elliot also using White Light’s new Snow Machine. White Light also supplied equipment to many of the other nominated shows, including Ducktastic and Blue Man Group (both nominated for Best Entertainment), Death of a Salesman (nominated for Best Revival), and On The Town at English National Opera (nominated for Best New Opera Production).
Presented annually by the Society of London Theatres, the Laurence Olivier Awards are awarded to shows opening in London’s West End between January 1st and December 31st each year. Shows are nominated by a postal ballot of all of the members of the Society; shows are then judged by panels made up of theatre experts and members of the theatregoing public.
The 2006 Olivier Awards will be presented at the Park Lane Hilton on Sunday 26th February. Further information about the awards can be found at the Society of London Theatres website, http://www.officiallondontheatre.co.uk.
