City Theatrical at LDI

City Theatrical had one of its busiest LDIs ever, launching eight new products, speaking at two seminars and winning an LDI Product Award for its new Projector Dowser, an electromechanical device that sits next to or on top of a digital projector and swings a flag in front of the beam to change video black to a real blackout. It’s a simple solution to a difficult problem that was recognized by the judges with an LDI Award.
The WDS Four Port Opto-Receiver receives a universe of DMX data via wireless broadcast from a WDS Transmitter, and turns it into four fully optically isolated five-pin XLR outlets. An external power supply allows for either mains or battery operation.
The WDS Candle Adapter allows the City Theatrical Candle Lite electronic flicker candles to be controlled or dimmed through WDS Dimmers, allowing for full wireless operation of stage candles. Recent installations of WDS Candle Adapters include the New York and Las Vegas companies of ‘The Phantom of the Opera’, and the New York production of ‘The Coast of Utopia’.
At the LDI New Product Breakfast CTI announced a price reduction in its award winning WDS product line, with prices as much as 50% lower on selected products with the same professional level of quality that has made the WDS system the standard of the entertainment lighting world. There is a lot more to wireless DMX than just getting data to the stage, and CTI has the engineering experience to support its customers.
CTI launched three new power/data supplies for Color Kinetics LED lighting fixtures, all of which have WDS Wireless Data System receivers built in to eliminate the need for data cables. The PDS-375 TRw is a six way power/data supply, the PDS-750 TRw is a 12 way power/data supply, and the PDS-375 TRB is a six way power/data supply which uses external batteries for power, eliminating the need for wires entirely.
CTI also showed an AutoYoke with ETC’s new 14º lens tube, giving lighting designers another automated front of house lighting fixture choice. The 14º AutoYoke can also utilize CTI’s AutoFocus and AutoIris as well as all popular color scrollers.
Attracting a lot of attention in the CTI booth was the “Top Hat Mobile” a Calderesque rotating mobile display of 16 new types of Stackers Tapered Top Hats. Stackers feature a unique patent pending design that prevents them from ever sticking together while allowing them to stack for space savings in storage and shipping. All are flocked inside to prevent light bounce and have round frames to allow half top hats to be rotated to the exact specifications of the designer.
CTI’s president Gary Fails and head of engineering, Larry Dunn, also spoke at two LDI seminars: ‘Wireless DMX and Other Data Protocols for Entertainment’, and ‘Wireless Data, Dimming and LEDs on The Phantom of the Opera’.
