KV2 Audio at Utopian Leisure LoveShack in Durham
Utopian Leisure has opened their first completely new bar, ‘Love Shack’ at the Walkergate development in Durham City. From getting access to the building shell to the doors opening for the public took just eight weeks.
Since opening on Wednesday 4th October for a ‘Students night’ the venue has been full to capacity virtually every night with long queues forming and the security staff having to implement a ‘one out – one in’ policy. As Utopian’s operations manager Carl Hornsby commented: “The venue is exceeding all expectations in both customer numbers and spend.”
The design criterion of the sound system was to give an even and extremely high quality sound for the dance floor and throughout the venue. Two slight problems had to be addressed, firstly noise outside the venue had to be kept to a minimum and sound transmission internally had to be minimised, as there is to be a restaurant directly above the LoveShack.
Once again Blaydon Communications Ltd chose KV2 Audio products for the venue, utilising the EX range of high resolution, active powered loudspeakers. In total eight EX12’s together with four EX10’s and seven EX2.2 bass bins were deployed around the venue. Controlling the system is a Biamp Audia digital sound processor with each individual loudspeaker being allocated its own control channel. The KV2 Audio EX Series is a compact active driven loudspeaker system in which the amplifiers are perfectly matched to the transducers and every component is rigorously optimized. Complete on-board signal management is provided including equalization, phase adjustment, crossover filters and thermal and overdrive protection.
In order to minimize both acoustic and mechanical pollution to the adjacent premises the loudspeakers were mounted from the ceiling with isolation being achieved by using two 45kgs acoustic vibration mounts fitted to each loudspeaker bracket.
