Level 42 And John Henry’s Ltd Give VDC Cables The Thumbs Up

Level 42, one of the biggest and most popular bands of the 1980s, are about to undertake a major UK and European tour to promote their latest album Retroglide – the band’s first album in over a decade.

In recent weeks Level 42 have been perfecting their on-stage performance at London-based rehearsal complex John Henry’s. Led by ever-present bandleader and bass maestro Mark King and original keyboardist Mike Lindup, the group also feature Gary Husband, Kwaku Dzidzornu, Nathan King and Sean Freeman.

During their long career, Level 42 has released 14 hit albums and enjoyed 18 Top 40 hits - including Top 10 smashes 'Running In The Family', 'Hot Water' and 'Lessons in Love'. They have sold in excess of 30 million albums worldwide and have toured the globe endlessly for nearly 15 years supporting legends such as Madonna and The Police along the way.

Among the many items of kit that will make up the band’s equipment list on this latest tour are numerous Van Damme cables, supplied by UK cable specialist VDC Trading. These include two specially made low noise high flexibility 30ft stereo guitar cables for guitarist Nathan King, who will be using them with his Line 6 Variax modeling guitar.

“I’ve used Van Damme cables many times in the past and have always found them to be of the highest quality,” Nathan King says. “These new cables were highly recommended by Line 6 and I’m delighted with them.”

VDC’s Van Damme cables were in constant use during the band’s rehearsals – not least because they are so popular with John Henry’s staff. Among the many bands that have used VDC cable while rehearsing at John Henry’s in recent months are Kubb, Queensryche, Fightstar, The All American Rejects, Therapy?, Vatican DC, Mcfly, Craig David and Funeral For A Friend.

Chris Griffiths, product manager at the North London facility, says: “We use tons of VDC cables in our Backline and Audio departments, as well as in the Sales department. VDC is our cable supplier of choice because they provide us with very reliable products and we get great service from them. Nearly all of our orders are last minute and have to be turned round quickly – such is Rock and Roll and some things never change! But at least we know we can rely on VDC to deliver what we need within a very short time frame.”

VDC’s marketing director, Nigel May, adds: “The quality of a cable makes a huge difference to the performance of any band, especially when they are touring. We’re really pleased that both Level 42 and John Henry’s have made Van Damme their cable of choice and we feel confident that the reliability and sonic clarity of our products can only add to the success of many future tours.”
