MA Lights the Premiership
With an innovative concept of live reporting, the German Football League TV-channel ’arena’ started broadcasting. The mobile studio, which resembles a football, stands every weekend in front of a football stadium. Moderator Oliver Welke presents the match live from all the different locations. To achieve the best performance and to supply robust material the developers of ’Make it Real’ used some of the best technology available. 24 Vari*Lite VL500 80V Wash fixtures were placed within the studio. Lighting control is by a grandMA full-size, three MA Digital Dimmer 12 x 2,3 kVA and one NSP.
70 tons of equipment are transported every week from one town to another. “Our team consists of 40 people. They need two days to build up the studio,” explains Jörg Privsek of Make it Real. “We want to get as close to the people as possible, therefore our system has to be mobile. Our set designer Jürgen Harsler arranged the seats around the studio stage to produce a stadium feeling. The lighting rig with its four pylons also reminds the spectators of this.”
Lighting designer Manuel da Costa relates his experiences with the unique arrangement: “Important for my choice of material were gentle fans, low power consumption, low heat and minimal maintenance time. The grandMA was my console of choice because it has excellent abilities for conventional and moving lights. It also has extensive networking abilities.”
Besides the Vari*Lites 12 DTS PAR 56 and 16 ETC Source Four Pars were implemented into the studio and the entrance area. Also, numerous LEDs colour the studio with the different colours of the football clubs under discussion.
