White Light Rigs Tour The World

White Light has had an international summer, supplying lighting rigs to shows in almost every corner of the world as well as to a number of new hit shows in London’s West End.
The most-travelled rig is that belonging to Edward Scissorhands, Matthew Bourne’s new ballet based on the film of the same name. White Light supplied the rig for Howard Harrison’s design to the UK production of the show last year - this seen at Sadler’s Wells in London and then around the UK. The show then travelled to Korea and Japan, taking the White Light rig with it along with production electrician Andy Murrel and programmer Vic Smerdon. Scissorhands is now en-route to San Francisco where it will start an American tour produced by NETworks Presentations; the American production will once again use the White Light rig, with the conventional lighting travelling from Japan and the automated lighting being sent from the UK. The show’s rig includes Vari*Lite VL1000s and VL3000s and Clay Paky CP400 colour-changing floodlights used to light the shows cyclorama. Control for entire rig is via a Strand 500-series console.
A rig for a second Howard Harrison design, the smash-hit ABBA musical Mamma Mia has also travelled abroad from White Light in Wimbledon, this time to Moscow where it was installed by a team led by production electrician Martin Chisnall. The rig was based on the rig White Light had earlier supplied to the Belgian production of the show, including lights from Vari-Lite and control from an MA Lighting grandMA console; the Moscow production is playing at the MDM Theatre.
Closer to home, White Light is supplying a rig for a visiting lighting designer from Australia - Gavan Swift’s design for Swan Lake On Ice which is touring the UK.
White Light is also enjoying a busy run of successful shows in the West End, supplying rigs to productions including Dirty Dancing, Spamalot, Evita and Daddy Cool alongside long-running shows such as Billy Elliot, The Producers and Les Misérables. This is in addition to many UK tours including the latest Guys and Dolls tour – another Howard Harrison design, this time recreated by James Whiteside.
