DPA Mics are First Choice for Swedish Parliament Refit

DPA Microphones’ Swedish distributor, Arva Trading AB, has supplied more than 200 custom-made compact cardioid mics to the Swedish Parliament (Riksdag).

Representatives from the Riksdag contacted Arva Trading in August 2005 to discuss testing new microphones for the Chamber. This is at the heart of the Riksdag, where the 349 members of parliament debate on important issues and take decisions affecting everyday life in the country.

“The Riksdag was looking for microphones which not only had a very high sound quality, but which would also fit into the newly-refurbished interior,” explains Arva Trading’s district sales manager Peter Beckman. “This was part of a renovation which included the replacement of all furniture including tables, chairs and podiums.”

The Riksdag technicians tested a DPA 4023 – on an active pole with short gooseneck – against a wide range of competitive brands. An official tender was then sent out to a number of specialist contractors, and Arva Trading was contacted by leading Swedish installation company AV-Teknik Vasteras AB, to quote for supplying the mics.

There were certain provisions regarding the mic’s specifications. Apart from the main criteria of excellent sound quality and functionality, it had to be a fixed-capsule model on a gooseneck with a highly visual LED indicator ring in a casing of matt chrome with a matching mounting ring. There was also a requirement for a table shock mount.

“We contacted DPA to see if they were able to manufacture a microphone with these exact criteria, and fortunately we immediately received a positive answer,” says Beckman. “A couple of weeks later, DPA sent us a prototype without the capsule and it was exactly what we were looking for. The LED indicator and the coating in particular were superb.”

Once AV-Teknik Vasteras had won the tender, they ordered 205 of the custom DPA 4025 TMs (table mics) with LED indicators, plus a further 10 without indicators for the main positions such as speaker podium and chairperson’s desks.

The table shock mount was custom built by engineers at AV-Teknik Vasteras who worked closely with DPA to come up with the best solution. The microphone also needed to be integrated into electronic panels on the delegates’ and chairman’s desks – with AV-Teknik Vasteras providing the means of doing so.

“We are extremely happy with the sound quality and design of the DPA microphone, and were also very satisfied with the smooth installation process,” says Christian Bjorn, AV Technician at the Riksdag.
