Outline Butterfly at Raspadskij Palace of Arts in Siberia
The town of Mezhdurechensk, in the Southeastern area of Western Siberia, is mainly inhabited by coal miners and the employees of the coal mining industry. The largest mine, which is called Raspadskij, also gave the name to the “Raspadskij” Palace of Arts.
Work began a few months ago on a total re-build of the theatre, which included the replacement of the entire technical set-up: audio, lighting, stage engineering and other apparatus. The tender for the design of the systems and supply of sound and lighting rigs went to Sound Design, a firm from Novokuznetsk. Moscow’s Studitech, Outline’s distributor for several years, took part as sub-contractor for the design, supply and installation of the sound system.
The client’s brief was clear: what was required was a high-quality sound reinforcement system able to ensure the necessary flexibility to adapt to the requirements of different types of events (concerts by pro and amateur singers and groups, choirs, conferences, meetings and much more). This is why a design was drawn up featuring Outline’s Butterfly line arrays.
The FOH system’s installation features 16 Butterfly CDH 483 hi-packs, eight Butterfly CDL 1815 lo-packs (in a single array with the hi-packs) and four floor-stacked Victor Live subwoofers - all controlled and powered by two DSP Genius 26, twelve T6.5 and two T4.5 digital power amplifiers respectively.
On-stage, preference went to four HARD 212 SP and four HARD 115 SP monitors (all self-powered), while two Outline Kanguro 1215 A were installed on side-fill duty. Two Micra II SP enclosures are used as FOH monitors.
The FOH desk is an Audient Aztec AZ-40 and the microphones on the installation are of various brands including beyerdynamic, DPA, Shure, Audio Technica and Schoeps.
Alexander Klinushkin, Outline’s representative in Russia since 1994, and head engineer with Moscow’s Studitech, comments: “This wasn’t my first experience with using the Butterfly system for theatres and concert halls. Once again, I achieved even better results than expected. In every project with Butterfly, I’ve increasingly higher expectations and, once the rig is fine-tuned and started up, I always have the pleasant sensation of not yet having reached the limit.”
Bokov Alexey, director in charge of Sound Design of Novokuznetsk, comments: “We’ve used Outline systems in various installation and tours since 1994. Last summer, in collaboration with Moscow’s Studitech, we carried out another project with a Butterfly rig. It was my first experience with one of the very latest Outline products. What struck me most about the system was the ease with which it can be mounted and acoustic adjustment carried out. The VIP simulation and modelling program was a great help – very sophisticated, user-friendly and always true to reality. At the inauguration ceremony of the Palace, we invited famous personalities from the Russian entertainment world, and they all remarked on the quality, transparency and dynamics of this extraordinary Italian product.
Outline Butterfly and other loudspeaker systems have also been installed recently in five other important Russian theatres.
