Scrub Supplies UK’s Largest Icon Console to Soundworks
HHB’s specialist audio-post division Scrub has supplied what is to date the UK’s largest Digidesign Icon console to Soundworks. The 48-fader console partners a Pro Tools HD5 Accel system in Studio 1 of the award-winning Cardiff facility, and is the first Icon to be installed in a full Dolby theatrical feature-approved studio in the UK.
With a 16-Fader Icon D-Control already operating successfully in Studio 2, the new console aligns the facilities at Soundworks with those of leading US and other major international film sound mixing studios.
“Our existing film console has served us well for many years,” says director and re-recording mixer Simon Jones, “but we’ve watched the proliferation of Pro Tools and Icon consoles in other top-flight studios around the world, and we’re committed to offering our film clients the best possible facilities here in Cardiff. This, combined with our positive experience with the Icon in Studio 2, has led us to make this investment.”
Affordability also proved to be a factor in the decision. “Features and flexibility made ICON the console we wanted at any price,” continues Jones, “but the relatively low cost meant that we could spec a big, 48-fader console which is important to give film sound mixers the visual feedback they need on larger projects.”
Obviously pleased with the new console, Jones is equally enthusiastic about its supplier. “We have a long-standing relationship with Scrub and have always received excellent service. Ben (Nemes, director of sales) is very good at getting down the M4 to see us!”
Following a pain-free installation, the new console has already seen active service on a number of projects including the teen horror comedy ‘Expiry Date’, a new HD production ‘12 In A Box’ and the animated feature ‘Family Ties - Dreams and Desires’.
Commenting on behalf of Scrub, director of sales Ben Nemes says: “Simon installed one of the first Icons in the UK and now he’s installed the largest. It’s significant that the Icon is becoming such a standard in film sound mixing and we wish Soundworks continued success in this exciting area of their business.”
