SIEL: 25 Years of Development
For almost 25 years now, the annual SIEL event in Paris has been providing support to professionals in the world of live entertainment, events, night life and music.
In 1983, SIEL (Salon International des Équipements de Loisirs/International Leisure Equipment Trade Show), was set up to meet the ever-increasing needs of discotheques and leisure centres. Very soon it added the Theatre Trade Show to give it an international dimension.
In 1991, SIEL expanded even further with an area entirely dedicated to Pro Audio, bringing together all the market’s products and solutions in terms of audio systems, recording and installation equipment. The show thus became the year’s unmissable event for professionals in this rapidly expanding sector.
Over the years, the Pro Audio and Night Village areas, initiated respectively in 1991 and 1998, increasingly widened their scope. That is why, in 2000, SIEL decided to split up into two distinct but totally complementary trade shows: SIEL Live Entertainment and SIEL Night. The change was a success and the expansion to cover two floors in 2005 confirmed this initiative.
Then in 2003 SIEL launched RADIO! (Rendez-vous Annuel des Décideurs Indépendants des Ondes/Annual Gathering of Independent Radio Decision-Makers). It provided the occasion to bring together all the professional specialisations of the world of radio, music and sound and to stage the latest broadcasting technologies of this fast-growth market.
Music, and more particularly DJing, naturally have their place in SIEL. To keep up with the rapid developments in this sector, SIEL set up in 2004 the Music and DJing section bringing together all the hardware, software, technologies and training tools needed by DJs. In 2006, the European DJ Meeting, the first forum of its kind, spontaneously attracted more than 4,000 DJs from all over Europe, providing yet more proof that SIEL closely matches the expectations and needs of professionals.
In 2007, SIEL Live Entertainment will be hosting the Image Village alongside the Pro Audio and Lighting sections. This will highlight the very strong synergy that exists between sound, lighting and video, three technologies henceforth inseparable within the world of live entertainment and events. SIEL Night will once again host the European DJ Meeting which was such a big hit in 2006. And SIEL will feature a FLAIR Zone within Bar Culture, which will offer lessons for beginners in FLAIR techniques and the creation of original cocktails!
SIEL will be celebrating its 25th anniversary from 11 to 14 February 2007 at Paris Expo, Porte de Versailles, hall 5.
