Star Events Group Cruises Into Morbit at The Showman’s Show

The Showman’s Show takes place at the Newbury Showground in Berkshire every October and its outdoor situation makes it the ideal platform for large-scale products to be examined at close quarters. Star Events Group took full advantage of this at the 2006 event to let the events industry get up close and personal with its latest groundbreaking product Morbit.

The initial concept for Morbit was muted in January of this year and although, remarkably, the stage was complete and in use for the summer season in a mere five months, the Showman’s Show was the product’s official launch and the first opportunity for many in the industry to see for themselves what a revolutionary product it is.

“The response to our announcement of the concept earlier in the year was excellent,” says Jane Russen, director of Star Events Group’s mobile division. “The majority of people who came to see the stage at Showman’s had already heard of it, although I’m sure there were some who came along to see if it actually existed!”

Star Events Group founder Roger Barrett developed the first modern mobile stage in 1988 and, with the company having acquired Orbit UK in 2004, it rapidly became clear that a mobile version of the popular Orbit stage would appeal to a wide range of event organisers.

This was confirmed by the fact that as soon as Morbit was completed it spent every weekend during the summer in use on events. “It’s been proved straight away that Morbit is a concept that our clients want,” adds Jane. “It’s a quick and easy solution which combines the advantages of a mobile floor system with the visual appeal and structural strength of the Orbit Flexidome.”

The stage is moved by a standard tractor unit and is built using a pair of integral cranes, saving the need for any additional plant on site. The cranes can then be used to fly the PA, with no motors and no riggers required. Average load in time for Morbit is five hours and requires six crew, whilst load out can be completed in four hours with only five crew.

Currently Morbit is available with a 12m span, offering 112m2 of performance area, and due to overwhelming customer demand a 15m version is already being planned. “There has been a real buzz about this stage,” concludes Jane. “Morbit looks like it’s going to be another very successful product for us and, as the company that designed the first modern mobile stage, Star Events Group looks set to continue to lead the way in mobile staging.”
