Star Events Group Helps Stop Climate Chaos

At the beginning of November, more than 25,000 people amassed in Central London’s Trafalgar Square and its surrounding streets to make their voices and feelings heard about the damage that is being done to our climate. Pressing the point home were a host of stars including Miranda Richardson and Razorlight’s Johnny Borrel. Star Events Group, a frequent supplier of equipment for such events, provided the staging requirements for the day’s activities.

The event was organised by ‘I-Count’, the campaign behind the Stop Climate Chaos coalition, which describes itself as ‘the ever-growing coalition of more than 35 organisations, that has over 700 years’ experience working for a safer, fairer world.’ Star Events Group provided a StarStages 11-09(2) 11m x 9m trailer stage that was positioned below Nelson’s Column.

“Although Trafalgar Square now plays host to such events on a regular basis, there are still a lot of factors that have to be considered when hosting something such as this in Central London,” says Star Events Group director Roger Barrett. “As a company, we have been working with the Greater London Authority for some time now and are fully aware of all the issues that have to be taken into account.”

In fact, Roger is in regular attendance at planning meetings for events in the Square. “After several years of events utilising the current venue layout, including the pedestrianised North side, we are slowly being able to push the boundaries of what is allowed,” he continues. “This is being achieved by extensive archive research and meticulous logging of all technical parameters from each event. This means that precedence is now regularly acknowledged by all the agencies that contribute to the planning process for events in the Square, rather than the old days when every event seemed to have to start from square one.” Roger says that he now knows nearly every flagstone by its first name…!

“We are very passionate about world issues,” Roger adds. “And we’re always grateful and happy to have the opportunity to be part of something that will make a difference.”
