dbx Dealers Go Back to School

Harman Pro UK, distributors for processor company dbx in the United Kingdom and Ireland, have recently staged three more ‘dbx University’ training days in different venues throughout the British Isles for dealers and end-users of dbx’s ZonePro and DriveRack products.

Both the ZonePro and DriveRack product ranges consist of user-configurable DSP processing engines that are controllable via Harman Pro’s proprietary HiQnet protocol and can be customised to route and process audio for use in a wide variety of environments. The ZonePro range is designed to drive commercial audio systems typical of retail outlets, art galleries and bars, as well as small entertainment venues. The professional DriveRack range is aimed at larger tour sound or installed venues, and is designed to provide all the professional processing and routing options live sound engineers need to apply between a venue’s mixer and its power amps.

ZonePro and DriveRack systems are by their very nature extremely flexible and user-configurable, and dealers and end-users alike can benefit tremendously from one-on-one or small-group training to allow them to configure these systems to suit their specific needs or those of their customers. The now-annual dbx University concept was created to provide exactly this kind of training. The recent three training days were held in mid-November in comfortable country hotels, one in Eire, one in the Lake District, and one in the Cotswolds, and were open to all UK and Irish dbx dealers and end-users. Senior dbx Product Manager Dale Sandberg flew in from the dbx headquarters in Utah, USA to lead the informal tuition sessions, and covered many aspects of ZonePro and DriveRack configuration, including a detailed tutorial on controlling individual processing units over a network. Unfortunately, Dale taught his charges too well; as his tutorial progressed, he found the parameters on his demonstration unit altering seemingly of their own accord. Eventually, he realised that some of the assembled dealers had worked out how to take control of his processor over the network and were mischievously changing the settings by remote control!

“It was a pleasure to come to Ireland and the UK for the latest round of the dbx University,” says Dale. “As always with Harman Pro UK’s events, the proceedings were well planned and flawlessly executed, and everybody had a very worthwhile time. I also learned the value of a properly secure control network!”

“We were delighted to welcome Dale and all the other ZonePro and DriveRack users and dealers to our latest dbx University sessions,” adds Tom Blackwell of Harman Pro UK. “Everybody learned a lot, and the evening gatherings were very convivial! Our thanks go to everyone who attended in November, and we look forward to hosting the University again next year.”
