Melton Theatre Invests in Facilities with Hawthorns

Brooksby Melton College of Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire has recently made a significant investment in the Melton Theatre, completely overhauling its stage scenery fly system. They turned to Old Dalby, Leics, based Hawthorns to undertake the project.

The installation included replacement of all hemp ropes, brakes, SWR and bar fixings. Six motorised pile wind winches were installed replacing the existing four stage and two front-of-house manual winches.

“The benefits to the theatre of the motorised lighting system have been huge, offering greater flexibility and speed to LX changes during production rigging and, more important, an improved level of safety, especially front of house,” said theatre manager Mark Cato.

“It was a challenging project getting the very heavy pile wind winches up above the fly floor, but with the help of some serious lifting equipment and the dedicated installation team, we made it happen,” said Hawthorn lead project engineer Nick Key.

“We are delighted with what Hawthorns have done for us and Nick’s team did a great job,” said Mark Cato.
