SIS Reinforces Links With Soundcraft By Installing a B400 Console
Harman Pro UK has supplied a Soundcraft B400 broadcast console to Satellite Information Services (SIS), which is installing the desk in the first of the new production complexes it is building in Milton Keynes.
SIS supplies television programming and sports data to licensed betting offices and already has broadcast facilities at its premises in Corsham Street, London. Earlier this year, SIS installed a new Master Control Room and Text Centre at its Milton Keynes premises. The new production facilities mark the next phase in the development of the Milton Keynes site and will give the company room for expansion, thus allowing it to offer customers more television channels in the future.
Peter Fuller, project supervisor who was responsible for broadcast design and specification, says: “The new Production complex comprises a Gallery, Sound and Voice-Over booth. Once it is completed, we will produce our new SIS+ channel from Milton Keynes, using a microwave link to deliver programming back to Corsham Street for encoding and uplinking.”
The decision to invest in a Soundcraft B400 console was made on the grounds of quality and continuity. SIS already has a long and established relationship with Harman UK and Soundcraft, having installed nine BB100 sound desks in various edit suites.
“It is important to SIS that a supplier runs a product line and supports it over a good length of time,” Fuller says. “We try to keep different types of equipment to a minimum, especially where multiples are concerned, thus reducing the number of spares we need to hold and the volume of expertise we retain in-house.”
Fuller adds that SIS uses the BB100 sound desk in its smallest chassis as its standard ‘small’ sound desk, typically in Edit Suites and for International program feeds controlled by a single operator.
“This means operators can move around and find familiar equipment wherever they go,” he adds. “We find them very reliable, and we always appreciate a piece of equipment that gives us no problems. We hope Soundcraft continues to support and manufacture the BB100 for the foreseeable future.”
Soundcraft’s B400 console is ideally suited to SIS’ Production requirements because it is a budget-friendly solution that offers flexibility with uncompromising fidelity for facilities of all size. Based on the highly successful B800, the B400 delivers a level of configurability unrivalled in its class. Input frames can comprise any combination of Mono, Stereo and Stereo Telco modules. 8 Mono or 4 Stereo Groups can be specified while the individual Monitor, Communications and Stereo Master Modules, fitted to the B400 as standard, offer a range of facilities to satisfy the most demanding engineer.
