Stage Technologies Has the X Factor
Stage Technologies is opening doors for X Factor judges and contestants. The live show, with over 8m viewers, used huge sliding video screens to create dramatic entrances on stage. The silent, smooth moving screens were controlled from Saxis Control Units supplied by Stage Technologies, who were contracted by Vertigo Rigging for this 12 week project. This very simple automation option enabled the equipment to be installed quickly and effortlessly, requiring only three BigTow winches and programmable handheld controllers. The system was ideal for the simple repeatable moves required for the show at the Fountain TV studio in Wembley.
Stage Technologies director of rental systems, Ted Moore commented: "Live television shows are very much like theatre productions but with a much larger audience so everything has to work 100% reliably. There are no retakes so you need to have absolute faith in the equipment you're using. On shows such as the X Factor, with a live audience of many millions, it has to work first time, every time."
Originally used on touring music concerts the Saxis Control Units have proved to be very useful additions to many film and television shoots, providing simple automation for many commercials and movie effects including Harry Potter, Mission Impossible and Batman movies. Connected to a BigTow winch the units have the ability to fly performers or props at speeds of up to 9m/s.
