d&b Excites the Taste Buds at SIEL

d&b audiotechnik's stand was especially upbeat and bubbly at the 2006 Siel exhibition, reported Didier ‘Lulu’ Lubin who heads up d&b's French office. The excitement was centred on their latest J-Series loudspeaker range that was sighted in full flight for this its first formal outing in Paris.

The high output of the J-Series reaches into large-scale sound reinforcement, extending further the spectrum of applications d&b systems embrace. It provides incredibly quick and easily configurable array solutions and consists of the J8 and J12 full range loudspeakers and the J-SUB cardioid subwoofer which are acoustically matched and constructed to be mechanically compatible both in flown or ground stacked arrays. Both the J8 and J12 loudspeakers produce a flat vertical wave front and a symmetrical horizontal constant directivity dispersion pattern of 80 degrees and 120 degrees respectively; this is maintained down to 250 Hz. Using the same driver complement, vertical directivity, size, weight and rigging fittings, the 3-way J8 and J12 loudspeakers utilise an active crossover between the low and mid frequencies and a passive crossover between the mid and high frequencies. The J-SUB is a bass-reflex design using three 18" high excursion drivers, one of which radiates to the rear to produce cardioid or hypercardioid subwoofer performance both in flown and ground stacked configurations. While it can be deployed in a conventional left and right ground stacked set up, it is particularly suited for use in distributed bass-arrays to achieve an even venue specific coverage pattern. The J8, J12 and J-SUB produce maximum sound pressure levels at one meter of 145 dB, 143 dB and 138 dB respectively. Also on display and continuing to draw a crowd were the established Q-Series loudspeaker range, the versatile d&b D12 amplifier that now contains configurations to power all the J-Series loudspeakers and d&b's latest version ROPE C software.

Didier ‘Lulu’ Lubin commented: "The J-Series prototype system made its first clandestine appearance in France at the Paris Rock en Seine Festival in August of last year in front of thirty-thousand people, and since then the rumours about it have not stopped. We have already delivered two complete systems in France and the festivals Les Francofolies de La Rochelles and Printemps de Bourges have already shown interest in using the J-Series for their main stages this summer."

In true French style Lulu concluded: "The taste buds have now been stimulated and I look forward, together with our French partners, to completely satisfy whatever the appetites."
