St. Bryce Kirk Delivers Message with EAW
St. Bryce Kirk in Kirkcaldy, Scotland, is one of the many ancient and beautiful churches that can be found throughout the British Isles. Parts of the building date from the mid-fifteenth century while the history of the site itself can be traced back as far as the thirteenth century. However, ancient though the structure may be, styles of worship have evolved with the times, and St. Bryce Kirk is no exception, hence the church has opted for a thoroughly modern solution from EAW to address their sound reinforcement requirements.
Trevor Cross, project manager at Audio Light Systems in Edinburgh who handled the installation explained that the specification came from the Church of Scotland's consultant in electro-acoustic engineering, John MacDonald. "Although it wasn't a big project, the church preferred to call in a consultant for a professional solution that would look and sound good for many years to come. The system had to reproduce sound from a variety of sources including speech, choir, praise band and the AV system. John opted for a pair of EAW MK5366 cabinets in white, and I have to say, I agree entirely with his choice. The MK5366 is a 2-way, high output trapezoidal enclosure that is designed specifically for this type of application. St. Bryce was looking for a system that could deliver extremely high quality audio for both speech and the praise band, and that's exactly what they've got."
A centre cluster configuration to minimise the acoustic difficulties created by the huge vaulted ceiling. Audio Light Systems decided to suspend the speaker cabinets from three points using wire rope, which also had the advantage of giving pleasing aesthetic results. "Everyone was extremely happy with the end results," concluded Trevor. "The MK5366's response and coverage were exactly what we were looking for. Speaking from the point of view of a systems contracting company, this type of installation in houses of worship is becoming more and more popular in the UK, and we find that EAW has a speaker solution for every situation, large or small."
