DPA Windpac Improves Broadcast Quality of Spanish Sports
RTVV (Radio Television Valenciana) has purchased 22 DPA Windpac-L microphone windshield systems from the Danish manufacturer’s Spanish distributor SeeSound.
RTVV was formed in 1982 as a public radio and TV service to promote the Valencian language spoken in the area. The Windpacs are mainly being used by RTVV’s OB vans to cover sporting events, and will be used this summer when RTVV is to be the host broadcaster for a visit to Valencia by the Pope.
“We needed to improve the sound quality of our outside broadcast transmissions, which includes lots of football games,” says Antonio Fernandez Irastorza, chief sound engineer at of RTVV. “We chose the Windpac because its response to adverse wind conditions and heavy rain allowed us to obtain a clear sound at all times.”
Since the purchase, RTVV’s Windpacs have fulfilled all expectations. “It was an excellent decision to go with the DPA system,” says Irastorza. “The sound quality of our transmissions has been greatly improved, and we are very impressed with the rain covers. Even in heavy rain the sound of the game is still crystal clear. The special structure of the Windpac allows us to forget about ball impacts, and even if the wind speed is up to 115 kilometers per hour, you hear only what’s happening on the field. The universal shock absorber is very efficient and allows any make of microphone to be mounted without the need for special accessories.”
