Hong Kong Jockey Club’s ZonePro 1260 Upgrade
In Hong Kong, all gambling on horse-racing is administered by the famous Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC). Horse racing is easily the favourite pastime of the local population and the average attendance at race meetings at the two courses — Sha Tin and Happy Valley — exceeds 45,000.
At the beginning of last year, HKJC planned to renovate some of its old Off-Course Betting Branches (OCBB) by adding a lot of new equipment such as Plasma TV, Cable TV and other devices. HKJC realized that its existing audio system had been designed and built for public announcement only and was unable to serve as a multi-functioning audio system. And so early last year a tender document was drawn up, and the search began for a new system.
Many candidates took part in the tendering process, among them ACE. One of the key features specified in the document was an advanced zoning capability as HKJC wanted their new audio system for the OCBB to split into many different zones — some receiving audio signals from the TV, while others, such as the cashiers’ area, needed to receive the audio from the on-course radio station, at a much lower level than in the lobby area.
While many of the companies were devising their solutions around numerous costly components, ACE simply turned to the innovative ZonePro 1260 12 x 6 digital zone processor from dbx.
“This is exactly what the installation needed,” said ACE’s Steven Lui. “The new ZonePro 1260 is really cost efficient and just 1U in size; and with accessories like the wall-panel Zone Controllers it is a really user-friendly system.”
Thanks to this piece of innovation from dbx, ACE was able to provide the simplest, and most cost effective solution to HKJC, which enabled them to win the contract for the overhaul.
To date, 45 OCBBs have been equipped with a full Harman Pro package — each with a ZonePro 1260 — and this will grow to 120-plus during the course of this year.
