AAL Switched with Cost-saving BSS Audio Soundweb London Solution

BSS Audio report that Norwegian distributors LydRommet have devised a highly cost-effective solution, allowing a single set of amplifiers to drive two sets of JBL Professional loudspeakers, one for cinema and the other for general PA/conference purposes.

According to the company’s Espen Andersen, they have been able to implement this at the 400-capacity Aal Culture House thanks to BSS Audio Soundweb London and now plan to establish this as a template for future implementations.

The company is using Soundweb London, which offers dual-redundant CobraNet audio networking, as the base in almost every installation they do, he explains. “In many cases it has been our ability to provide a total HiQnet solution that has enabled us to win the contract; in fact we have been able to show that it is actually possible to save money by implementing HiQnet in smaller applications.”

A solitary BLU-80 provides the solution in the challenging Aal Culture House application and falls comfortably within the tight municipal budgets. “They wanted to use JBL Professional cinema and conventional speakers but driven from a single amp rack via the BSS Audio processor. So we specified a rack of two-channel Crown Audio CTs amplifiers, fitted with IQ-PIP-USP3 modules to form a CobraNet network. We created various switching layers enabling switching of the amp outputs to the correct set of speakers, while the final switch changes the presets in the BLU-80. This has enabled us to develop and implement a quality solution within the budget.”

Espen adds that the infrastructure is now in place to expand the DBC CobraNet network bridge, encode from the Dolby matrix and feed directly into the CobraNet system. Ultimately this will enable Aal, and many similar cultural houses, to go fully digital within a couple of years.
