Academy 2 for Carling Academy Bristol
Academy Music Group has announced plans to launch Carling Academy 2 Bristol, a secondary room within the Academy, emulating the success of the ‘Academy 2’ concept in its sister venues in Birmingham, Liverpool and Newcastle. The area will be a production-complete 350 capacity, stand alone gig venue and will also act as an additional area for full entertainment at club nights and dance events.
Commenting on the new development, AMG’s John Northcote (CEO) says: “The addition of Carling Academy 2 in Bristol is another positive step in AMG's policy of giving new bands and artists the opportunity to play in professional venues such as Liverpool, Newcastle, Birmingham and Islington (London). New talent is the lifeblood of the industry and must be encouraged and protected."
Over the last four-and-a-half years Carling Academy Bristol has firmly established itself as the premier concert and club venue in the South West and has also become a focal point for the region’s exceptionally creative cultural scene. The venue currently hosts in the region of 300 events per annum, attracting some 600,000 people, which is set to increase with the introduction of Carling Academy 2 Bristol in June.
“Various agents and promoters have frequently asked if we can develop an entry level product similar to our other venues across the country and Carling Academy 2 will be the perfect size for showcasing new talent from the local area and breaking new acts on the touring circuit. Following the recent reduction in capacity at The Fleece, we are perfectly positioned to fill this niche with an extra venue of this size,” says general manager Helen Spillane.
“With the introduction of Carling Academy 2 Bristol, we will now also be able to offer promoters upgrade paths to the main room within the same site with full in-house production at various configurations,” adds AMG’s Group Operations Manager, Richard Maides.
