Amex Audio Stars with JBL Professional Vertec Line Array System

When TV producers for Superstar 2006, one of the most prestigious live televised shows in Slovakia, were seeking concert-quality audio services, Amex Audio was chosen to provide all necessary audio production services from their extensive inventory. Serving a studio audience for five weeks in Bratislava’s Incheba Hall C, a 5,000-seat multi-purpose venue, Amex Audio supplied a Vertec line array system from JBL Professional. The production, featuring musical entertainers performing popular music in a lavish stage setting, was produced for direct televised broadcasts from 2nd February to 10th March.
“Incheba Hall C has very complex architectural features. Converting a large space into a virtual TV studio is a challenge on many fronts,” advised Latislav Demcak, director of audio. “For sound it is important to carefully plan the integration of audience-area coverage for the front areas, the out fill and the far throw requirements. “The JBL VERTEC product range is well-suited to high profile productions where predictable coverage and premium audio quality is of concern.”
The Crown-powered Vertec system included 6-element arrays of JBL’s full size VT4889 for main left and right locations. A center array comprising four VT4889’s was positioned for balcony coverage with six under-hung compact VT4887 line array elements for short and medium throw support in the center of the hall. To maximize space in the TV stage area, all power amplifier racks were flown to the ceiling along with the loudspeaker arrays. “System control was done from the mix location using an HP TC1100 graphic tablet PC,” noted Demcak. “We used a WiFi link, and achieved remote control and monitoring for all of the Crown I-Tech power amplifiers in this manner. This made tuning our system and making relative array adjustments quite convenient.”
David Scheirman, vice president, tour sound, JBL Professional, observes that highly focused regional operations like Amex Audio enable event producers and touring productions alike to achieve the highest possible results in live sound production. “Around the globe, the upgrading of audio quality for events of all types can be clearly linked to the increased availability of improved tools for use by professionals like Amex Audio,” noted Scheirman. “But it’s not just JBL’s focus on quality products that help drive this trend. The skills and dedication of the audio production crews who use them, and hold production values in high regard, are the real drivers for quality results.”
Amex Audio, a first-call audio systems rental vendor in the Slovak and Czech region, adopted JBL Vertec after prior experiences with another brand of line array systems. “JBL has been the perfect choice as a supplier. Being able to offer an industry standard platform that works equally well for regional civic and cultural events as it does for major international artists, is a key part of our business plan,” explained Demcak. “Our first Vertec order in 2005 was for 40 enclosures. We’ve now had exceptional results introducing the system to our various festival and touring clients.”
