Charlotte Church on Tour with Cohedra

From her early days as the ‘Voice Of An Angel’ to the current ‘Crazy Chick’ persona, Welsh singer Charlotte Church has already enjoyed a quite incredible career for one still so young. And with a string of successful recent singles and an equally successful album, ‘Tissues And Issues’ riding high in the music charts, Charlotte’s recent UK tour, including a home town appearance at Cardiff’s St David’s Hall, was destined to sell out in absolutely no time at all.

With PA system requirements that naturally focused on impact with clarity and detail, freelance sound engineer Chris Madden, and Luton-based high profile pro audio concert rental specialists Concert Sound, requested HK Audio’s acclaimed Cohedra line array system as his PA of choice for the prestigious three date UK tour. Front of house engineer Madden already had experience of the HK Cohedra set-up, having used it on a Waterboys tour earlier this year, where dynamics and detail in the amplified sound, based around mainly acoustic instruments were equally critical. And so, having declared himself impressed with the Cohedra performance throughout the Waterboys gig, Madden and Concert Sound again specified Cohedra.

The main front of house set-up for Charlotte’s tour featured 12 CDR 208Cs plus 12 CDR208S mid/hi cabs for the flown line array columns, plus 16 CDR210Ss with four CDR210F subs. Driving this articulate and powerful system were four HK PR16 amp racks (four VX2400 amps and two DFC controllers with patch bays and power distribution), plus a further two PR8 amp racks (two VX2400 amps, DFC controller, patch bay, power distribution). Six ConTour CT112 cabinets, with four ConTour CT108s were also used, acting as both in-fills and out-fills as required.
