Chroma-Q Color Web for BBC All Time Greatest Movie Songs Show

Lighting designer Mark Kenyon used one hundred square metres of Chroma-Q Color Web as part of his set lighting for one-off BBC show All Time Greatest Movie Songs.
The show, which aired on Saturday 25th March, is the fourth in the All Time Greatest … brand produced by BBC Entertainment Events. Tess Daly was joined by Robin Gibb, Ronan Keating, Andrea Bocelli, Girls Aloud, Lulu, Louise Redknapp and Cyndi Lauper, who performed classic songs from the movies like Saturday Night Fever, Notting Hill, Blue Hawaii, Love Actually and Reservoir Dogs. Shirley Bassey topped the bill with renditions of her James Bond themes - Goldfinger, Moonraker and Diamonds Are Forever.
A demo by distributor A.C. Lighting to Mark Kenyon and Steve Wells of rental company Richard Martin Lighting left both convinced that the Color Web’s modularity and cost made it an ideal solution for providing low res visual effects across a wide variety of TV shows, so RML ordered an initial 120 panels.
For the show, panels were configured as two x 50 square metre layers to provide video across the full width of the stage and double-hung with the second layer offset to provide additional pixel resolution.
The Color Web was driven by PixelMAD software for converting the screen pixels of content into DMX data relayed through the panels. Effects were matched to the set lighting and song structures and included bold geometric shapes, video content and static blocks of colour.
Mark Kenyon commented: "I've used the Color Web on a number of programmes now and shown it to various set design and production clients, who've all been very excited by its creative possibilities. It's a very versatile product which I fully expect to be using on many shows in the future."
The Chroma-Q Color Web is designed and manufactured by Artistic Licence and distributed worldwide by A.C. Lighting. It is licensed by Artistic Licence, Color Kinetics and Super Vision.
