Creative Sound’s New SSL C300 Console Goes Down A Storm In Paris
Producers and engineers working in Creative Sound’s Theatre C are thrilled with the Solid State Logic C300 digital production console, which was installed in January of this year.
As one of France’s leading post production facilities, Creative Sound was keen to stay ahead of the competition, hence the decision to become the first facility in Europe to install the new C300, which was launched last September at the IBC 2005 Convention.
Facility owner Cristinel Sirli says the investment is already paying dividends with fantastic feedback from clients who are very impressed by the desk’s audio quality and flexibility. “The sound quality is amazing,” Sirli says. “You can really feel the difference when a mix is played on a television set, even with analogue hertzian reception!”
Since opening five years ago, Creative Sound has been providing post production services to a range of television and DVD clients from its studio complex in the 15th Arrondissement, Paris. Its main Theatre A, which is both Dolby and DTS approved, is equipped with an SSL Avant Plus console. The new C300 compliments the Avant Plus by allowing the facility to handle an increased number of mixing projects in a faster and more efficient way.
Studio C has already hosted a number of prestigious mix projects including Kaamelott, a mini series for M6; La Bataille d’Austerlitz, a docu-drama for France 2 TV; several Zone Interdite programmes for M6 TV; mixes for La Vrai Journal for Canal+ and Le Bal du Siècle for France 5 TV, which featured the voice of famous French actress Fanny Ardant.
Sirli says: “Our engineers have been really impressed by the flexibility of this powerful console. The versatility of the monitoring matrix, together with the mix matrix, is a major plus point when it comes to dealing with the time pressures inherent in post production mixing. Engineers have also commented on the capacity of the console to deal with any fader and any channel as being user defined and configurable in any format, from mono up to 7.1.”
Creative Sound’s C300 has 152 inputs and outputs and is equipped with SSL’s revolutionary new Timefreeze automation, along with a powerful 128x8 monitoring matrix. The desk was installed by Version Originale, in conjunction with SSL France.
“Creative Sound is a young company that has built a strong reputation amongst prestigious television customers, particularly those involved in documentaries, dramas and DVD mixing,” Sirli adds. “This reputation is based on the fact that we always pay attention to innovation and because we believe in providing customers with solutions that have technical and artistic merit. We see equipment as a tool for our creativity and a means of satisfying our customers, both in terms of controlling workflow and completing projects in the fastest possible time.”
