DPA Miniatures are Mic of Choice for Belgian Radio Mic Specialist
Belgian rental company RF Transmission, owned by former sound engineer Bernard Scyeur, has one of the largest inventories of DPA microphones in the country, purchasing around 400 of the Danish manufacturer’s acclaimed miniature mics since 1998 from Belgian distributor Amptec. RF Transmission has recently acquired an additional 40 each of DPA 4061 omnidirectional miniatures and 4066 omnidirectional headbands for its rental stock, bringing its current total to 120 DPA 4061s, 125 DPA 4066s plus 15 DPA 4088 cardioid headbands.
For 11 years Scyeur has specialised in providing wireless transmitters, microphones and in-ear systems for a broad range of customers, some within Belgium but for the most part international. RF Transmission has supplied musicals including Jesus Christ Superstar, Romeo and Julia and Baghdad Café, as well as the annual Fête Nationale on the Champs Elysées, Paris, the Night of the Proms, Antwerp, All African Games in Nigeria and the Paralympic Games in Athens. However the company’s main business is providing wireless microphone systems for large-scale operatic productions. The most recent of these was Aïda at the Paris Bercy, but other leading productions including Carmen, Turandot, Rigoletto, La Traviata and the Magic Flute have been staged in such far-flung venues as the Stade de France, Paris; Ajax Amsterdam ArenA; Schalke 04 Stadium, Gelsenkirchen; Shanghai Stadium, China; Stade de Campo de Pollo, Buenos Aires; Doha Stadium, Quatar and les Arènes de Véronne, France.
"I use DPA because they simply make the best and most reliable microphones for the job,” says Scyeur. “Having DPA mics on the equipment list is always reassuring for the customer, in terms of quality, reliability and performance, with no need for further questions."
Over the years, Scyeur has developed a dedicated software package to manage stock levels, customer quotes and invoicing, and makes a point of testing all equipment three times before it goes live on a production. Each microphone has its own barcode, giving such information as rental history and dedicated frequency response, measured before and after each job. This ensures that each customer receives equipment in optimal working condition, guaranteeing no hassle during production.
