Martin at Silken Hotel Diagonal Barcelona
Opened in 2004, the modern architecture and minimalistic design of the Silken Hotel Diagonal, both by architect Juli Capella, stand out as the ultimate in good taste and the latest in designer trends.
The Silken Diagonal is located in the privileged setting of the new @22 district of Barcelona, just next to the Agbar Tower. Juli Capella, ex-President of FAD (Association for the Promotion of Decorative Arts) and cofounder of the pioneering magazines ‘De Diseņo’ and ‘Ardi’, is one of the most important personalities for the promotion of design in Spain.
Martin’s contribution to Capella’s design is dynamic lighting of the pergola located on the roof terrace. A magnificent outdoor swimming pool and solarium, where guests admire impressive views over Barcelona, is covered by sun-blocking panels, a pergola style slatted structure that shields guests from excessive summer sunlight.
In order to improve their visual appeal, Martin Architectural’s Spanish representative, ECLER, devised a decorative illumination solution using weatherproof Martin Cyclo 03 IP-65 color changers to wash the panels in diverse colors while providing a contrastive element to the nocturnal sky. Lighting control is from an ELC AC612XL.
Furthermore, two Cyclo 03 luminaires are located in the hotel entrance in order to illuminate the enormous panoramic windows that lead to the reception on Avenida Diagonal in a more friendly fashion. Lighting supply was by Ecler with installation by Ecler and Soviluz.
